Three folio (9-1/2" x 12") volumes bound in twentieth century half green morocco leather with marbled boards and endpapers and matching morocco corners. First Italian Edition of THE AMERICAN GAZETTEER, published in London in three duodecimo volumes by J. Millar in 1762, which Sabin 26814 refers to as "A meritorious work." Illustrated with engraved title vignettes and 78 engraved plates and maps (including engraved frontispiece, 20 folding maps, 19 maps, 35 plates, 3 folding views). This work covers parts of South America, Cuba, New England, and up to Newfoundland. The natural history plates include bison, penguins, and many others. A handsome presentation. Half-title with marginal repair, one leaf (Ll1) with a small repaired hole affecting text, first folding map with repair to verso, some light staining, mostly marginal; binding close to Fine with a little spotting to the leather. Overall Near Fine Borba, page 347: "This translation of the American Gazetteer [3 vols. London, 1762], is practically a new work, having been greatly enlarged, and with eighty plates and maps engraved for this edition"; Howes, A 207.

London, Joseph Mawman, 1802. First Edition. Hardcover. Two quarto (7-3/4" x 10") volumes in contemporary tree calf leather with gilt-lettered red morocco spine labels. Illustrated with 16 engravings and a large folding map. Acerbi was an Italian naturalist and composer. His record of travels in Scandinavia describes the customs of the people and detailed observations on natural history. Much of the second volume concerns Lapland where he visited remote areas described here. The map is detached and has a short closed tear with little effect on the image. Scattered staining and foxing but generally clean. Bindings rubbed but the covers are tight. Very Good .

Collection of original parts (7-1/4" x 5-1/2") housed in publisher's purple cloth folders with gilt lettering and ribbon ties along with a small pamphlet containing a table of plates: DICTIONNAIRE ICONOGRAPHIQUE DES ORCHIDEES. TABLE DES PLANCHES. Bruxelles: Vandievot, [1902]. Apparently complete work with approximately 824 fine chromolithographed plates of orchids, including a few folding, with accompanying descriptive text. Goossens, perhaps the greatest of all orchid painters, illustrated this rarest of all serially-published orchid iconographies with only 250 examples published. NISSEN BBI 2236n. A total of 17 volumes, plus index, with the larger genera of the orchid gathered in individual volumes and the remaining in two large compilation sections. The final volume comprises 61 supplementary text parts. Issued in an edition of only 250 copies. Also included is the wrapper-bound index volume. Library labels on spines and penciled numbering on title leaves but no library marking to contents. Plates overall very good to fine, a few of the folding plates splitting along the crease, some plates with small adhesion spots from opposing leaves. Very Good or better and quite scarce .

Embellished with 12 full-page illustrations by British caricaturist and book illustrator George Cruikshank.
